NIANTIC, CT In early spring Alewife herring return from the ocean and swim upstream in the Bride Brook to spawn. The Connecticut DEP traps alewives in the Bride Brook to restock depleted herring runs in other streams around the state. Herring runs have been declining in Connecticut since the mid-1980's.
