Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) kill of immature Great Black-backed Gull (Larus maritimus) on Rhode Island beach in winter. Snowy Owls may appear in greater than usual numbers in Southern New England the year following an irruption flight, like the historic irruption winter of 2013-14. This phenomenon is called an Echo Flight.
