STONINGTON, CT University of Connecticut researchers conducting studies of nesting salt marsh sparrows at Barn Island State Park catch an early fall migrant Least Sandpiper (Calidris minutilla) in their mist nests. The research is part of SHARP (Saltmarsh Habitat and Avian Research Program), a multi-institutional project studying the ecology and conservation of birds in tidal marshes on the Atlantic coast.
