PINCHER CREEK, ALBERTA At the Shell Canada Waterton Complex, elemental sulphur is a by-product of "sweetening" or removing hydrogen sulfide from the natural gas extracted from the Waterton gas field. Natural gas found along the Rocky Mountain front is considered "sour"gas, with a high content of hydrogen sulfide, a highly toxic and corrosive compound that must be removed before the gas can be used.
