BLACK BIRCH 13-10-0466264
EAST HADDAM, CT In Devil's Hopyard State Park, an early successional stand of Black Birch trees (Betula lenta) has replaced the mature Eastern Hemlock forest devastated by an infestation of woolly adelgid. The fast growing birch trees grow in dense stands in the absence of the shading canopy of the hemlocks.
