NOME, AK Nome, a city of approximately 3,500 people sits on the southern coast of Alaska's Seward Peninsula, on the Norton Sound of the Bering Sea. The city lies about 150 miles south of the Arctic Circle and is not accessible by road from other Alaskan cities. A system of gravel roads extending approximately 50 miles in three directions allows travel through remote tundra terrain. In June the sun barely dips below the horizon allowing nearly 24 hour daylight.
