NIANTIC, CT Alewives run upstream in the Bride Brook in early spring. Alewives and other anadromous herring return from the ocean each spring to spawn in rivers, streams and ponds in Connecticut, but their runs have declined sharply in recent years. The Connecticut DEP has been trapping alewives in Bride Brook, one of the few remaining healthy runs, to restock depleted herring runs in other streams around the state.
