LYME, CT With skilled hands, Ginger Bladen delicately removes a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird from a Japanese mist net at her Thrush Wood banding station. Bladen has been banding songbirds near her Lyme home for more than a decade and recording the information for MAPS (Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship), a survey collecting data about nesting passerines from hundreds of stations throughout the country. Bladen elected not to band the hummingbird because it's legs are so frail.
